Urgent Care Team

Our Urgent Care Team comprises of Advanced Paramedic and Paramedic Practitioners, who are senior health care professionals with additional training, qualifications and experience allowing them to undertake tasks once performed by Doctors. They are experienced at taking a patient history, assessing symptoms, making a diagnosis and instigating treatment or referrals as required.

The team generally see patients with new illness or injury and flares of pre-existing chronic health conditions.

To access the Urgent Care Team, please telephone the surgery. Our Patient Services team will sign post you to the best service or arrange an appointment with the team. Urgent care is for acute problems on the day, in the first instance please self-care, take advice from NHS 111 or a pharmacy. If you do need to see the team you will be offered an appointment on the day,

please be available for the appointment time offered. Acute problems are by there very nature needing to be seen that day.

The Urgent Care Team work independently as a practitioner lead team, however they have access to a GP if required and meet regularly throughout the day.

Nursing Team

Nurse Karen Goodwin (f)
Practice Nurse

Karen is our Nurse Manager leading the Nursing Team with over 20 years’ experience as a Practice Nurse.
As well as leading the team Karen’s duties include Infection Control Lead specialising in our Respiratory Care- COPD and Asthma. Karen is also involved with cervical screening, family planning, and childhood vaccinations.

Sue has over 20 years’ experience as a Practice Nurse. She specialises in our Diabetes Care, and is involved with cervical screening, family planning, and childhood vaccinations.

Nurse Natalie Castle (f)
Practice Nurse

Natalie is one of our Practice Nurses who has joined us after many years working in the district nursing team. Her main roles include leading our Dressing Clinics, Cervical Smears, stitch removal, INR’s, injections, some vaccinations, venepuncture and other general nursing duties.

Sarah is one of our Practice Nurses who has many years experience in Nursing. Her main roles include dressings, stitch removal, injections, childhood vaccinations, blood tests (venepuncture) and other general nursing duties.

Practice Nurse

Amy is one of our experienced Practice Nurses with many years in nursing. She provides a wide range of care, including dressings, stitch removal, injections, childhood vaccinations, blood tests (venepuncture), and other general nursing duties.

Leah Bate (f)
Nursing Associate

This is a new role in primary care, (NA), Leah Bate (f), has completed a two year course with Bristol University and is now a qualified Nursing Associate. She can carry out many of the treatment room services our Nurses carry out. She is currently working alongside our Nurses, GPAs and Healthcare Technicians learning and supporting the team. Leah assists the Doctors in Hypertension Management and Learning Disability Health Checks.

Crystal Thompson (f)
General Practice Assistant (GPA)

Crystal provides care for our patients, including blood tests, blood pressure checks and foot checks for patients with Diabetes. She works closely with our practice nurses. As a GP Assistant she provides support to the Doctors to manage patients with Long Term Conditions/Chronic Disease Checks.

Isabella also provides care for our patients, including blood tests and blood pressure checks, working closely with our practice nurses. As a GP Assistant she provides support to the Doctors to manage patients with Long Term Conditions/Chronic Disease Checks.

Mr Simon Merrett (m)
Healthcare Technician/Assistant

Simon provides nursing assistant care for our patients, carrying out blood tests, blood pressure checks, dressings, flu vaccinations, stich removal and ECG's. He works closely with our practice nurses. He also carries out home visits for INR tests for patients who cannot get into the surgery. He also assists in our medicals.

Health and Wellbeing Coaches

Caroline runs the Health and Wellbeing Coach team and our Patient Services Team.

The main role of a Health and Wellbeing Coach is to support the Doctor in providing care, signposting and to support and coach you, this includes self health management and to encourage patients in taking a more proactive role in their health and wellbeing.

Karen is our Manager Partner. Karen is responsible for the overall management and strategy of the practice.

Kate is also responsible for the overall management and strategy of the practice. She is supported by the Senior Management Team.

Admin, HR & IT Manager

Sarah is our Admin, HR & IT Manager. She is supported by Anna Eve, Deputy Admin, HR & IT Manager. The team cover IT management, Coding, Scanning and Summarising, Data Quality, HR, Secretarial and Prescribing. The team members are Paula, Michaela, Jayley, Isobel, Mary, Rachel, Gemma and Kathryn.

Jude Hammon
Clinical Admin Manager

Jude is our Clinical Administration Manager and has a background in Pharmacy. She leads the administrative team, ensuring effective support for the Prescription Team and overseeing the management of local medication guidelines within the practice. Her role is central to maintaining safe, efficient, and well-coordinated medication processes.

Caroline is our Patient Services Manager and is assisted by Sarah Worton, and Rebecca Warr our Deputy Reception Managers. Her team are here to help you. They may need to ask for further details when you telephone this is to ensure we can assist you as speedily and appropriately as possible. They are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as all our staff. The Patient Services Team are : June, Christine, Allison, Nicola, Isabella, Kelsa, Rhiannon, Hollie and Catherine.

Cheryl is our Performance and Compliance Manager, overseeing QOF, Enhanced Services, Chronic Condition Recalls and CQC Compliance.

Health Visitors

Our health visitors are concerned with preventing ill health and give advice on health promotion to all age groups. Their primary role is with families with young children and those with special needs and to closely monitor the development of young children.

District Nurses

Our district nurses provide quality nursing care in the home for those who are too unwell to attend the surgery. They give advice and support to patients and carers and help them to remain independent.

Training practice

There are usually a number of fully qualified doctor attached to the practice gaining experience as a family doctor for periods of up to a year. With the patients agreement some of these consultations may be video recorded for training purposes

Medical students and nursing students attend the practice from time to time. We hope that you will co-operate with us and help the students learn about general practice. However, you will be informed of their presence in advance, and if you do not want them to be present at a consultation, your wishes will be respected. This will not affect your treatment in any way.

GP net earnings

All GP practices are required to declare the mean net earnings (eg. Average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice. This is required in the interests of the greater public accountability recognising GP pay is ultimately funded from tax paid by the public.

The average pay for GPs working in Preston Grove Medical Centre in the last financial year was £62,302 before tax and national insurance. This is for 0 full time GPs, 11 part time GPs and 0 locum GPs who worked in the practice for more than six months.
